April 2016 Actioneer Meeting Recap

Previously published in the Citizen Voice & Times:

The Estill Action Group met Wednesday night to continue planning for the Twin City Trail Town trial run, which will fulfill requirements for the trail town application.

The tentative date for the trial run is the same day as the annual Revive River Drive event on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3, 2016.

Trial runs are a required element of the trail town application. Communities seeking trail town status must plan events highlighting existing trails and all that a community has to offer.

EAG also discussed preparations for the Mountain Mushroom Festival. They will be selling the popular “Home” t-shirts in a new color and will host a photo booth, where children can have their pictures made in a canoe or kayak against a river scene backdrop.

The EAG announced plans to host monthly volleyball tournaments at the Ravenna Veteran's Memorial Park during the summer months. The tournaments are a fundraiser for the group, who are currently sprucing up the Trail Town Hub in Ravenna, and preparing to build and erect the first of many signs needed for highlighting area trails.

The next volleyball tournament is scheduled for April 16, 2016 at the park. Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m. The cost to register is $50 per team.

EAG president Lindsey Rogers announced that volunteers from Carhartt will be coming on June 10 to work on projects pertaining to Trail Town, including some work on the trail hub in Ravenna as well as some work on the trails.

On April 9, the Estill Action Group picked up trash below the bridge, which is the starting point for the Speedy Spore River Run on Sunday, April 24.

A new membership drive was announced at the meeting. Anyone who would like to join the Estill Action Group as an official member with voting privileges may contact the EAG at 859-358-6942 or 859-361-2444.

The application to become members of the Estill Action Group is on the estillactiongroup.com website and will also be available at the EAG booth at the Mountain Mushroom Festival.

Yearly memberships dues range from student to business levels, and anyone donating the $25 level gets a free t-shirt. Thirty dollars and up also enjoys dual membership in the Estill Development Alliance.

The Estill Action Group meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m. at the Twin City Trail Town Hub, 726 Main Street, Ravenna, Ky. 40472. All are invited.

During the weekend of the Mushroom Festival, the Estill Action Group is in need of volunteers to help man their booth and the Speedy Spore River Run. Volunteers are needed at the following times: On Friday, for booth set up at 4 to 6 p.m.; on Saturday, booth presence is needed from 9 to 11 a.m.; from 1 to 3 p.m.; and from 3 to 5 p.m. On Sunday, booth presence is needed from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; from 12 to 2 p.m.; and from 2 to 4 p.m.
